Some Angst

It seems that most of the people I'm close to have suddenly got boyfriends. While on the one hand I'm very happy for all of them, on the other hand there are some problems:

1. They don't have as much free time, therefore I don't really get to hang out with them.
2. It seems like some of them forget to care about what their friends are up to.
3. I still haven't been on a date in college and this makes me bitter and angry (ahem, bitterness and anger possibly being high on the list of why no dates have occurred. Am working on that...). And no I didn't even go out on a date with the boy who later decided he was gay, so that doesn't count as a consolation prize. If you've ever tried to convince me that it does, you're wrong and obviously haven't had the pleasure of such an experience.

Oh well, at least I manage to get a lot of work done. Speaking of which my portfolio is in the process of an update and should have more work and a new home page later this week. Check it out at www-personal.umich.edu/~hstroud

Thinking Things Through

What with all the down time over break (and my laptop being in for repairs) I had a lot of time to think about what my plans are for the next few years. And well, there's a lot to think about, but the short of it is the following:

a. I know I'm more of a designer, not an artist.
b. Architects are designers who get to work on things as big as buildings or as small as silverware.
c. I want to get a Masters of Architecture.
d. I don't want to do any more art school.
e. The important thing before pursuing an MArch is to have working experience.

So, the conclusion from this and other things is that I'm planning on dropping my art major and graduating on time so that I can just get on with it instead of feeling frustrated with the art school here for another year. It's not that I haven't learned things while in art school, it's just that I don't think I have more to learn there.

So now I'm faced with realizing that I only have 3 semesters left of school, that I'm more than halfway done. Which means that by next year I need to know what kind of job I'm looking for and what connections I have that can help me find said job. Ah scary...

My Apple Returns

Yay, I've got my laptop back after a week-and-a-half of it being "repaired" at the apple store. I say repaired in quotes because they only fixed half of what they said they would but what are you going to do? Eh. Anyway, break is winding down and tomorrow I tackle all the laundry/packing/finding my stuff that's been scattered around the house and return to my apartment. It'll be good to be back in Ann Arbor for lots of reasons.
